Bihar Delegation Holds Key Talks with Union Minister on State Development
In a significant move aimed at bolstering Bihar's industrial and energy sectors, a high-level delegation from the state met with Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in Delhi. The delegation, led by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, included Industries Minister Dilip Jaiswal and JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha. The discussions centered on a range of critical developmental issues, with a primary focus on ethanol procurement, the expansion of energy infrastructure, and gas pipeline projects, among other matters of public importance.
Positive Dialogue on Ethanol Procurement
Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary described the meeting as "positive and meaningful," highlighting the constructive nature of the talks regarding the purchase of ethanol from factories within Bihar. Industries Minister Dilip Jaiswal reassured ethanol plant owners in Bihar, stating that they "need not worry" following the productive discussions with Union Minister Puri.
Jaiswal elaborated on the purpose of the meeting, saying, "We met the Union minister today regarding some of the problems being faced by the ethanol factories and their owners in Bihar. There was a very meaningful discussion. Bihar should not lag behind in terms of industry, and the ethanol plants will also get an opportunity to move forward." He emphasized the state government's unwavering support for industries established in Bihar, affirming that it stands firmly with them.
Addressing Ethanol Quota Discrepancies
In related developments, Industries Minister Dilip Jaiswal addressed questions in the legislative assembly on Monday, providing clarity on the ethanol procurement scenario. He revealed that Bihar has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the central government for the purchase of 35.28 crore litres of ethanol. However, a significant discrepancy exists between production capacity and procurement quotas.
Jaiswal pointed out that dedicated ethanol units in Bihar are currently producing approximately 1,602 kilolitres per day. In contrast, the central government has fixed a procurement quota of only 1,060 kilolitres per day for the state. This gap has raised concerns about the viability of ethanol plants and their potential closure.
Clarifying Misinformation and Advocating for Increased Quotas
Minister Jaiswal took the opportunity to dismiss reports of ethanol factory closures as "false," aiming to allay fears within the industry. He stressed that the state government is actively advocating for an increase in Bihar's ethanol procurement quota from the Centre. This push is part of broader efforts to ensure that Bihar's industrial growth is not hindered and that ethanol plants can operate at full capacity, contributing to the state's economy and energy security.
