The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday announced a fresh round of organisational appointments across several states, naming Union minister Harsh Malhotra as the new chief of the party’s Delhi unit and senior leader Kewal Singh Dhillon as the president of its Punjab unit. The appointments were announced by BJP national president Nitin Nabin as part of the party’s ongoing organisational reshuffle ahead of key political battles in multiple states.
Key Appointments Across States
In another significant change, Abhishek Debroy was appointed the new BJP president for Tripura, while Archana Gupta was named the party’s Haryana unit chief. These appointments are aimed at strengthening the party’s organisational structure and sharpening its political strategy in these states.
Harsh Malhotra’s Role in Delhi
Harsh Malhotra’s elevation is seen as crucial for the BJP’s preparations in the national capital, where the party is looking to strengthen its organisation and sharpen its political strategy. Malhotra, currently a Union minister, will lead the Delhi unit as the party gears up for upcoming electoral battles.
Kewal Singh Dhillon’s Journey
Kewal Singh Dhillon, a former Congress leader, was denied a ticket by the Congress from Barnala in the 2022 Punjab assembly elections. He was subsequently expelled from the party for not supporting the official candidate. Dhillon then moved to the BJP and contested the Sangrur Lok Sabha by-election in 2022 and the Barnala assembly by-election in 2024, both on a BJP ticket, but lost both. His appointment as Punjab unit president comes at a time when the BJP is attempting to expand its footprint in the state ahead of state elections.
These organisational changes reflect the BJP’s strategy to rejuvenate its state units and prepare for future electoral challenges. The party is focusing on strengthening its base in key states like Delhi, Punjab, Tripura, and Haryana.
