Bharat Vikas Parishad Prepares for National Leadership Election in Nagpur
The Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP) is set to conduct elections for its national committee during a significant two-day national council meeting scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Dr Hedgewar Smruti Mandir in Reshimbag, Nagpur. This crucial gathering will determine the organization's leadership for the upcoming two-year term, with more than 300 state, regional, and national-level office bearers expected to participate from across India.
Election Proceedings and Organizational Structure
The election process will focus on selecting key national positions including the national president, secretary, and treasurer. Beyond the electoral formalities, the meeting will feature comprehensive discussions on organizational expansion strategies, service activities, cultural initiatives, and future action plans. Sessions will thoroughly review the Parishad's ongoing programs while outlining priority areas for the coming term.
National general secretary Durga Dutt Sharma revealed that the organization has implemented a structured geographical framework, dividing the country into 10 distinct regions and 80 provinces to enhance coordination and streamline implementation of various activities. This systematic approach facilitates focused social development work across all designated areas.
Historical Background and Current Reach
National organization minister Suresh Jain provided important context about the Parishad's history and current operations. Established in 1963, BVP has grown into a substantial voluntary organization with over 1,600 branches nationwide and a membership base exceeding 85,000 families. Jain emphasized the organization's culture-oriented, apolitical nature, noting that its nation-building efforts draw inspiration from the ideals of Swami Vivekananda.
In Nagpur specifically, where the meeting is being hosted by the Parishad's Vidarbha unit, there are currently 6 active shakhas with more than 250 families actively associated with BVP activities. State president Padmakar Dhanorkar and state general secretary Aswari Varkad confirmed that all preparations for the national-level event have been completed satisfactorily.
Inauguration and Distinguished Participation
The meeting will commence officially on Friday at 10am with an inauguration ceremony led by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh joint general secretary Mukund Rao. National president and former Supreme Court judge Justice (retd) Adarsh Kumar Goel will oversee the proceedings alongside other senior organizational leaders.
Extensive Service Initiatives and Healthcare Programs
BVP maintains an impressive portfolio of service activities that demonstrate its commitment to social welfare. The organization operates 13 specialized disability centers that collectively provide approximately 30,000 prosthetic limbs, calipers, crutches, and related support equipment annually. To date, these centers have distributed more than 3.5 lakh prosthetic limbs and facilitated over 8,000 polio surgeries.
Under the ambitious "Anemia Free India" campaign in 2025, the Parishad successfully provided free testing and treatment services to more than 4.08 lakh women across the country. Looking ahead to the coming year, each BVP branch plans to adopt 10 economically weaker families to support self-employment and self-reliance initiatives through targeted assistance programs.
Healthcare Infrastructure and Medical Services
The organization has developed substantial healthcare infrastructure including several notable medical facilities:
- BVP Kota Hospital
- A diagnostic center in Chandigarh
- Divyang Trust in Patna
- Vivekananda Health Center in Gurugram
- Dr Suraj Prakash Health Center in Faridabad
These medical centers provide essential services including heart surgeries, dialysis treatments, MRI scans, and various diagnostic procedures at concessional rates to ensure accessibility for all sections of society. Last year alone, these facilities served over 22 lakh patients, demonstrating the significant impact of BVP's healthcare initiatives.
The national council meeting represents a pivotal moment for Bharat Vikas Parishad as it prepares to elect new leadership while evaluating past achievements and planning future directions for its extensive social development and service programs across India.
