Chandigarh Congress Stages Candle March Protest Over Youth Leader's Arrest
In a significant political development, the Chandigarh Congress organized a candle march at Sukhna Lake on Wednesday. This demonstration was held in direct response to a Delhi court's decision to send Uday Bhanu Chib, the president of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), to four-day police custody. The candle march was specifically convened to protest what participants labeled an "unconstitutional and politically motivated arrest." Attendees, including party members and supporters, demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the IYC president. They argued that the legal action against Chib represents an overreach aimed at stifling dissent.
Manoj Lubana, president of the Chandigarh Youth Congress, addressed the gathering with forceful remarks. "Peaceful protest is not a crime," he asserted. "The arrest of Uday Bhanu Chib is a clear attempt to silence the voice of India's youth. We inherited the courage to stand against injustice from Gandhi, Nehru, Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh. This action exposes the political insecurity and cowardice of the Modi government."

Lubana further emphasized that the youth of the country would not be intimidated by such measures. He declared their commitment to continue raising voices for democracy and constitutional rights, underscoring a resolve to uphold foundational principles of Indian democracy.
During the event, party members also took the opportunity to reaffirm their solidarity with Rahul Gandhi and the broader democratic movement.
