Central University in Chhattisgarh to Replace 'India' with 'Bharat' on Degrees and Marksheets
A central university located in Chhattisgarh has announced a significant change in its academic documentation. Starting from the upcoming academic session, the institution will replace the word 'India' with 'Bharat' on all degree certificates and marksheets. This decision aims to promote the use of the country's ancient name and align with the growing sentiment of cultural nationalism.
Currently, the university's marksheets and degree certificates carry references to both 'India' and 'Bharat' in English and Hindi, respectively. The new policy will standardize the nomenclature by using 'Bharat' exclusively in both languages. University officials stated that this move is intended to strengthen the identity of the nation and honor its historical heritage.
The change will be implemented from the next academic year, affecting all new graduates and students. Existing certificates will not be reissued, but the university will provide a supplementary document upon request. This initiative has been welcomed by many students and faculty members who see it as a step towards decolonizing education and embracing indigenous traditions.
The decision comes amid a broader national conversation about the use of 'Bharat' versus 'India'. Several other educational institutions and government bodies have also considered similar changes. The central university in Chhattisgarh hopes that this move will inspire other universities across the country to adopt the name 'Bharat' in their official documents.
