The function served as a solemn reminder of the 21-month Emergency imposed in India from 1975 to 1977, during which fundamental rights were suspended and political dissent was suppressed.

The souvenir ‘Aapatkaal Ke Yoddha’ documents the stories of individuals who stood up for democratic values during that dark period. Sai emphasised that remembering such chapters in history strengthens the nation’s commitment to democracy.
Dr Raman Singh: Emergency a Lesson in Safeguarding Democracy
Former Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh described the Emergency as a crucial lesson in protecting democratic institutions. He urged citizens to remain vigilant against any threats to constitutional freedoms. “The Emergency was a period when the soul of the Constitution was attacked,” Dr Singh said. “We must ensure that such an event never repeats, and that future generations understand the value of democratic rights.”
Shri Indresh Kumar Calls on Youth to Prioritise Nation First
Senior RSS leader Shri Indresh Kumar addressed the youth, urging them to uphold the principle of ‘Nation First’. He stressed that the sacrifices of democracy fighters should inspire young Indians to actively participate in safeguarding the country’s democratic framework. “The youth must learn from history and dedicate themselves to the service of the nation,” Kumar stated.
Event Organised to Commemorate Emergency Remembrance Day
The event was organised to mark Emergency Remembrance Day, observed annually on June 25. It featured cultural performances, exhibitions, and discussions on the impact of the Emergency. Attendees included state ministers, legislators, and families of those who were imprisoned during the period. The souvenir release was a key highlight, with copies distributed to schools and libraries to educate younger generations.

Political analysts note that commemorating the Emergency serves as a deterrent against future authoritarian tendencies. The event in Raipur is part of a broader initiative by the state government to promote historical awareness.
