Kharge Sworn In as Rajya Sabha Member
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge took the oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha on Monday, June 29, 2026, following his re-election to the Upper House. The oath was administered by Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President C P Radhakrishnan in his chamber at Parliament House in New Delhi.
Kharge represents the state of Karnataka in the Rajya Sabha. He was re-elected to the position earlier, marking his continued tenure in the Upper House.
Senior Leaders Present at Oath-Taking
Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were present during the ceremony. Their attendance underscored the party's support for Kharge's continued role in Parliament.
Vice President Radhakrishnan congratulated Kharge after the oath-taking, stating, "Long experience will be utilised by the House in the most prompt way." This remark highlighted the value placed on Kharge's parliamentary experience.

The event also saw the presence of several key political figures from across party lines. Health Minister J P Nadda, who also serves as the leader of the House, attended the ceremony. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh were also present.
