Congress Members Stage Protest in Prayagraj Over FIR Against Swami Avimukteshwaranand
Members of the City Congress Committee in Prayagraj organized a significant demonstration on Wednesday at the collectorate campus. The protest was directed against the government's decision to file a First Information Report (FIR) against Swami Avimukteshwaranand and his disciple Mukundanand, among others, for alleged exploitation of minor boys.
Allegations of Insult to Hindutva and Sanatan
The protesters strongly condemned the FIR, labeling it as a grave insult to Hindutva and Sanatan Dharma. They argued that the action undermines the religious sentiments and traditions upheld by these spiritual figures. During the demonstration, activists raised anti-government slogans, expressing their frustration and disapproval of the current administration's handling of the case.
Accusations of Double Standards by BJP Government
Congress members criticized the BJP government for what they perceive as hypocrisy. They pointed out that while Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has previously condemned police attacks on students, the government is now pursuing legal action against a revered Swami. This, they asserted, highlights the government's double standards and inconsistent approach to justice and religious matters.
The protesters emphasized that the BJP, which often claims to support Hindutva and Sanatan values, is making baseless and disgusting allegations against Swami Avimukteshwaranand. They called for a thorough review of the case to ensure fairness and respect for religious leaders.
Submission of Memorandum to Authorities
As part of their protest, the Congress members submitted a formal memorandum to the Additional District Magistrate (City). This document was addressed to the Prime Minister, urging him to intervene and address their concerns regarding the FIR. The memorandum outlines their demands for justice and the protection of religious figures from what they deem as unfounded accusations.
The demonstration in Prayagraj reflects ongoing tensions between political parties and religious communities in India, with Congress positioning itself as a defender of Hindu traditions against perceived governmental overreach.
