Congress Leadership Convenes Tamil Nadu Strategy Session
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge led a significant meeting on Friday with party leaders from Tamil Nadu. This gathering comes as the state prepares for assembly elections expected in April. The session took place at the party's headquarters, Indira Bhawan, located in Delhi.

Several prominent Congress figures attended the strategy discussion. Lok Sabha leader of opposition and former party chief Rahul Gandhi participated actively. General secretary for organisation K C Venugopal also joined the proceedings. Veteran leader and former Union minister P Chidambaram, who originates from Tamil Nadu, was present as well.
Kharge expressed confidence following the meeting. He stated on social media platform X that the Congress believes Tamil Nadu voters will choose equality, social justice, empowerment and good governance. He contrasted this with what he described as bigotry, sectarianism, and anti-federal politics from the RSS-BJP combine.
The Congress president emphasized the party's determination to play a crucial role in meeting the aspirations of Tamil Nadu's people. He shared a video from the meeting alongside his post.
Congress Position in Tamil Nadu Politics
In Tamil Nadu, the Congress operates as part of the Secular Progressive Alliance. This coalition is led by chief minister MK Stalin's DMK party. The alliance achieved a decisive victory in the 2021 state elections. They secured 159 out of 234 assembly seats during that contest.
The DMK alone won 133 seats in that election. The Congress party captured 18 seats as part of the alliance's success.
Emerging Political Dynamics
Recent developments have introduced new considerations for the Congress in Tamil Nadu. Speculation has emerged about some party members in the state favoring an alliance with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. This is a new political party launched by popular Tamil film star Vijay.
Earlier this week, Rahul Gandhi made a separate statement on social media. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP of insulting Tamil people and their culture. This criticism related to the delayed release of Vijay's film Jana Nayagan. The movie faces legal challenges with the Central Board of Film Certification regarding clearance.
