Conventional Warfare and Means Are Relevant Even Today: Rajnath Singh
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has asserted that conventional warfare and its means remain as relevant today as they were in 1947. Speaking at an event in Nagpur, Singh emphasized that despite the evolution of modern warfare technologies, traditional military strategies and equipment continue to play a crucial role in national security.
Defence Production Surge
Singh highlighted India's remarkable growth in defence production, noting that it surged to over Rs 1,78,000 crore in the fiscal year 2025-26. This marks a significant increase from just Rs 46,000 crore in 2014, reflecting the government's focus on boosting indigenous manufacturing under the 'Make in India' initiative. The minister credited policy reforms and increased private sector participation for this achievement.
Historical Context
Drawing parallels with 1947, Singh stressed that the fundamentals of warfare have not changed entirely. He argued that conventional capabilities like infantry, artillery, and armored vehicles are still essential for deterrence and defense. The minister also underscored the need for continuous modernization to address emerging threats while maintaining traditional strengths.
