Delhi Feels-Like Temp Hits 44.5°C, IMD Warns of More Heat

New Delhi: Rising temperature and humidity left the city sweltering on Saturday, with the “feels-like” temperature peaking at 44.5 degrees Celsius even as the actual maximum hovered around 39 degrees Celsius at 2 pm, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

IMD Forecast: More Heat and Rain Ahead

The IMD forecast a further rise in temperature over the next few days, along with rain over the next two days, which is likely to keep humidity levels high. “No large change in maximum temperature is likely during the next two days, followed by a fall of about 2 degrees Celsius over the subsequent two days, with no significant change thereafter,” the IMD said.

Temperature Readings Across Delhi

On Saturday, the Safdarjung observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius, compared to 39.1 degrees Celsius a day earlier. The Ridge was the hottest area at 41.1 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was recorded at 28.7 degrees Celsius, against 27 degrees Celsius the previous day.

Yellow Alert and Rain Expected

The Met office issued a yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms, though no significant activity was recorded till late evening. Rain is expected to continue till June 21. On Sunday, the maximum temperature is likely to be in the range of 38-40 degrees Celsius before dipping to 36-38 degrees Celsius thereafter.

Air Quality Improves Slightly

Meanwhile, the city’s air quality index (AQI), on a scale of 0 to 500, stood at 132, improving from 142 a day earlier.
