New Delhi experienced another hot and humid day on Friday, with the heat index, or 'feels-like' temperature, reaching 42.5 degrees Celsius at 2.30 pm, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The air temperature is expected to remain between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
Temperature Details
The city's base station at Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 39.1 degrees Celsius, which is normal for the season, compared to 39.5 degrees Celsius the previous day. The Ridge area was the hottest in the capital, with a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was 27 degrees Celsius, slightly below the normal of 27.9 degrees Celsius recorded a day earlier.
IMD Forecast
The IMD stated: 'No large change in maximum temperature during next 24 hours, fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius subsequent three days, thereafter rise by about 1 degree Celsius. Fall in minimum temperature by about 1 degree Celsius during next 24 hours, rise by about 2 degree Celsius during subsequent 24 hours and no large change thereafter.'
A yellow alert was issued for rain and thunderstorms on Friday, though no significant weather activity was observed until late evening. The IMD expects rainfall to continue until June 21. On Saturday and Sunday, maximum temperatures are likely to hover around 37-39 degrees Celsius.
Air Quality
The air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 142, improving from 157 the previous day, on a scale of 0 to 500.
