Piyush Goyal Launches Scathing Attack on Rahul Gandhi Over 'Compromised PM' Remarks
Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, a key figure in negotiating a trade deal with the United States, has spearheaded the government's robust response to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's recent allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a fiery retort, Goyal labeled Gandhi as a "puppet of foreign powers, anti-India forces, and anti-India organisations," escalating the political confrontation.
Goyal Accuses Gandhi of Compromising National Interests
Amid criticism from the Lok Sabha leader of the opposition regarding the interim India-US trade agreement, Goyal asserted that Rahul Gandhi has demonstrated a high-handed approach to politics. "He is nothing but a puppet of foreign powers, anti-India forces, anti-India organisations, and anti-India governments. This is the compromise Rahul Gandhi and the Gandhi family are making today," Goyal stated emphatically.
Responding to Gandhi's characterization of PM Modi as "compromised," Goyal accused the Congress leader of playing with the country and recklessly endangering the interests of its citizens. "Perhaps they cannot tolerate the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the new India, the emerging economy, and India's dominance in the emerging world. Therefore, they repeatedly compromise national and national interests by telling lies upon lies," he added, emphasizing that this behavior is not a recent development.
Historical Allegations Against the Gandhi Family
Goyal extended his criticism to the broader Gandhi family, alleging a pattern of compromising the nation's integrity. He referenced instances during Manmohan Singh's government, claiming that Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi wielded extra-constitutional powers. "Sometimes, they even tore up cabinet decisions in front of the press. Disrespecting the Prime Minister, running the government through the National Advisory Council, and imposing a leftist ideology on the country? Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi used to run a parallel cabinet and compromise the country," Goyal alleged.
Delving further into history, Goyal highlighted the Bofors scandal from Rajiv Gandhi's tenure, suggesting it led to the fall of his government. "We all know how, at Rahul Gandhi's behest, the Foreign Minister tried to stop the investigation in the Bofors scandal by asking Swedish authorities to do so. We all know how, in order to protect his friend Ottavio Cataracci, an honest investigation was prevented," he said, accusing the Gandhi family of tarnishing India's global reputation.
Goyal also implicated Indira Gandhi, citing claims by Ambassador Moynihan about CIA funding for the Congress party. "Indira Gandhi was no less in compromising the country's interests. We saw how Ambassador Moynihan confirmed that the CIA repeatedly provided funds to the Congress party for elections and that the Congress party ran its politics through the CIA," he stated.
Goyal Criticizes Gandhi's Press Interactions
The senior BJP leader further attacked Rahul Gandhi over his conduct with the media, accusing him of orchestrating curated press conferences. "You can't even ask an uncomfortable question to Rahul Gandhi without being tagged as a BJP-associated press person. He only wants curated press conferences. He can't take questions other than those he's given in writing. Such a person is leading the Congress party and playing with the country," Goyal alleged, reinforcing his claim that Gandhi is jeopardizing national interests.
Rahul Gandhi's Allegations Against PM Modi
Rahul Gandhi had earlier made serious accusations against Prime Minister Modi, claiming that the PM rushed into the US trade deal to benefit Union Minister Hardeep Puri and industrialist Gautam Adani, whom Gandhi described as the "BJP's financial structure." Gandhi alleged that Modi contacted former US President Donald Trump, saying, "Sir, I'm ready to do whatever you say," and accused the PM of selling out the country.
Gandhi also referenced the Epstein files, suggesting that Puri's name was released to threaten Modi, and claimed that unreleased videos and messages from the files are being withheld. Additionally, he asserted that a case against Adani in the US is actually targeted at PM Modi, alleging these factors forced Modi to finalize the trade pact after months of stagnation. "Narendra Modi is compromised; he was trapped and forced to sign the US-India trade deal," Gandhi concluded.
