IMA Condemns Ragging Incident at Bhavnagar Medical College
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has taken a strong stance following a reported ragging incident at the Government Medical College in Bhavnagar. The local IMA branch submitted a formal representation to the college dean, calling for immediate action against those involved and enhanced safety measures for students.
Letter to Dean Demands Strict Action
In a letter signed by IMA Bhavnagar president Dr. Dilip Hadiyal and honorary secretary Dr. Harpalsinh Dabhi, the association expressed deep concern and strongly condemned the alleged actions. The letter emphasized that every medical student has the right to a safe, dignified, and mutually respectful learning environment, and that any form of harassment runs counter to the core values of the medical profession.
Recommendations for Prevention
To prevent recurrence, the IMA urged the college administration to strengthen its anti-ragging committee and squad. It recommended regular awareness programmes, surprise inspections, and the introduction of an effective, confidential grievance redressal mechanism. These measures aim to ensure a safer campus and uphold the integrity of medical education.
