The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Ranchi office announced on Monday that spells of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms may provide relief from the ongoing heatwave conditions across Jharkhand starting from May 28. Abhishek Anand, Deputy Director of IMD Ranchi, stated, "Partly cloudy sky, with a possibility of light to moderate rain or thunderstorm, is likely over southern, north-eastern, and adjoining central parts of Jharkhand on Thursday and Friday. Subsequently, temperatures are expected to decrease by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius."
Current Heatwave Conditions
As residents continue to endure hot and sultry weather, the Met office on Tuesday indicated that heatwave conditions will persist in Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, and other northwestern parts of Jharkhand on Tuesday. However, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour are expected at isolated places over northeastern and adjoining central districts, including Dhanbad, Giridih, Bokaro, Hazaribag, and Koderma.
Regional Forecast
The state capital Ranchi, along with Khunti, Gumla, and Ramgarh districts, is likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph at isolated locations. Until Monday evening, isolated parts of the state recorded very light to light rainfall, with the highest amount of 9.8 mm observed in Pakuria, Pakur district.
Temperature Records
Daltonganj recorded a scorching 44 degrees Celsius, while Ranchi registered 39 degrees Celsius on Monday, highlighting the intense heat before the expected relief.
