Rani Durgavati, a valiant queen of the Gondwana kingdom, is remembered for her resistance against the Mughal Empire. She ruled from 1550 to 1564 and is a symbol of courage and regional pride. CM Yadav stated, "Renaming the airport after Rani Durgavati is a tribute to her bravery and a step towards preserving our cultural heritage."

The renaming is expected to boost tourism in the region, as Jabalpur is a gateway to tourist attractions like the Marble Rocks and Kanha National Park.
