A devastating air ambulance crash in the dense forests under Simaria police station limits of Chatra district on Monday night has resulted in the tragic death of 28-year-old pilot Vivek Vikas Bhagat. The young aviator, who had logged an impressive over 1,700 flying hours during his career, was piloting the ill-fated aircraft when it went down in the remote woodland area.
Family and Community in Mourning
Vivek Bhagat, a native of Luti village under Latehar sadar police station limits, was the only son of Dev Sahay Bhagat, an executive engineer in the rural works department posted in Chatra. At the time of the catastrophic crash, his father was at his residence in Luti village. "It was a big shock for the officer when he heard the news," a local villager revealed, describing the profound impact on the family.
Dev Sahay Bhagat immediately rushed to the crash site along with other concerned residents after receiving the heartbreaking information about his son's accident. The grief-stricken father was later visited by Chatra MP Kalicharan Singh and MLA Janardan Paswan at Chatra Sadar Hospital on Tuesday morning, where they offered their sincere condolences and support during this difficult time.
Promising Career Cut Short
Vivek Bhagat had undergone comprehensive pilot training in Kanpur before further pursuing an aviation-related course in South Africa, demonstrating his dedication to the field. Described by those who knew him as bright and soft-spoken, he was widely regarded as a promising professional with a bright future in the aviation sector.
Tragically, the young pilot was scheduled to go on leave from February 27 to attend a close friend's wedding in Ranchi. "He was excited about it. Nobody imagined this would happen," a family acquaintance shared, highlighting the sudden and unexpected nature of the tragedy that has left the community reeling.
Additional Casualty and Investigation
Officials in Chatra confirmed that the co-pilot of the aircraft, Savrajdeep Singh, a resident of Amritsar, also perished in the crash. Singh had accumulated over 300 flying hours during his aviation career. The MP described the deaths of seven persons in the incident, including the son of a district officer, as "deeply tragic", reflecting the widespread sorrow across the region.
Vivek Bhagat is survived by his grieving parents and his younger sister, Anu Abhilasha Bhagat, who is currently studying at a medical college in Tripura. The family now faces the immense challenge of coping with this sudden loss while remembering the promising young man whose life was cut short in this aviation disaster.
