Jorawar Singh Takes Helm of Lalru Municipal Council
In a unanimous decision, Ward No. 6 councillor Jorawar Singh was elected President of the Lalru Municipal Council on Friday. The elections for the top three posts were conducted after the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected councillors. Ward No. 8 councillor Harish Madan was elected Senior Vice-President, while Ward No. 4 councillor Aman Rana assumed the role of Vice-President.
Reservation and Political Context
The post of Municipal Council president was reserved for a Scheduled Caste (SC) candidate under the reservation roster, paving the way for Jorawar Singh's election. The elections followed the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) decisive victory in the recently concluded municipal elections, where AAP secured 12 out of 17 seats in the House.
Randhawa's Congratulations and Expectations
Dera Bassi MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa congratulated the newly elected office-bearers and thanked the voters of Lalru for their support. Randhawa emphasized that the councillors' foremost responsibility is to ensure the overall development of the town and provide citizens with essential civic amenities, including sanitation, drinking water, roads, sewerage, and other basic public services. He stressed that living up to the expectations of the people should remain the top priority of the newly elected representatives.
Jorawar Singh's Political Ties
Jorawar Singh is considered a close associate of Randhawa and has been backing him since the latter's days as a truck union leader. This longstanding relationship underscores the political alignment within the local AAP structure.
Presence of Youth Development Board Chairman
Chairman of the Punjab Youth Development Board, Parminder Singh Goldy, was also present on the occasion, highlighting the party's focus on youth engagement and development in the region.
AAP's Sweep in Lalru Municipal Elections
The AAP's sweep in the Lalru Municipal Council elections, winning 12 of the 17 seats, marks a significant political shift in the area. The newly elected council is expected to prioritize infrastructure and public service improvements as outlined by Randhawa.
