Congress MP Jothimani Condemns Police Delay in BJP Leader Sexism Case

Congress MP S Jothimani has expressed deep concern over what she describes as "worrying police inaction" in a case involving BJP's Karur district president. The issue stems from a complaint filed ten days ago regarding alleged sexist remarks made against her, with no arrest made yet.

MP Questions Safety for Ordinary Women

Jothimani highlighted the broader implications of the delay, stating, "If this is the situation with a woman MP's complaint, then how will ordinary women who face such issues come forward to lodge complaints?" She revealed that the BJP district president's phone is switched off and he is reportedly on the run, calling such responses disheartening.

She urged police to take immediate action, suggesting, "Police should form a special team or conduct a thorough search and arrest him."

Background of the Case

The case was registered by Karur town police based on a complaint from Congress district president N Ramesh. It alleges that the BJP district president used derogatory terms against Jothimani during a demonstration organized by the BJP near the Head Post Office in Karur on February 10.

Widespread Complaints and Legal Threats

Jothimani noted that complaints have been filed by many alliance members from across the district and country, including submissions to:

  • Women's Rights Commission
  • District authorities
  • Tamil Nadu DGP's office
  • Other national bodies

MPs and leaders from various parties have also joined in filing complaints. Jothimani speculated on possible reasons for the delay, saying, "I don't know whether police have refrained from arresting him to give him time to seek anticipatory bail."

She issued a stern warning, adding, "If that is the case, I will take the matter to court and argue it myself. This will be a fight not just for me, but for all women."
