Malankara Church Synod Demands Immediate Release of Koshy Commission Report

The Episcopal Synod of the Malankara Syrian Catholic Church has issued a strong demand for the immediate publication of the Justice J B Koshy Commission report. This commission was specifically appointed to investigate and study the various issues and challenges faced by the Christian community in the region.

Synod Concludes with Urgent Appeals to Government

The synod, which concluded its proceedings at the Pattom Catholicate Centre in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday, has urgently called upon the government to take swift and decisive action to address the vulnerable situation of the Christian community in the state of Kerala. The gathering emphasized that timely intervention is crucial to safeguarding the rights and welfare of this religious minority.

The synod also placed significant emphasis on the need to protect both the Constitution of India and the Christian faith within the country. It called for the government to promptly implement decisions that have been made to resolve the ongoing crisis in teacher appointments, ensuring that justice is served for teachers across the state. These points were highlighted in an official press release issued following the synod.

Centenary Celebration Preparations Announced

In preparation for the centenary celebration of the 2030 Malankara reunification movement, the synod made an important decision. It declared that the period from September 20, 2026, to September 19, 2027, will be observed as a dedicated year of charity and justice. This observance will involve the formulation and implementation of related programmes aimed at promoting these values within the community and beyond.

Recognition for Elected Church Members

The synod also hosted a special reception to honor church members who were elected as people's representatives in various areas during the recent local body elections. This event served to acknowledge their contributions and encourage continued civic engagement among the faithful.

The proceedings of the synod were presided over by Major Archbishop Cardinal Mar Baselios Cleemis Catholicos, who led the discussions and decisions aimed at addressing the pressing concerns of the Malankara Syrian Catholic Church.
