PM Narendra Modi Achieves Historic 100 Million Instagram Followers Milestone
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a new global benchmark by becoming the first world leader and politician to amass over 100 million followers on Instagram. This remarkable achievement, announced on Thursday, underscores his unparalleled digital influence and reach on the Meta-owned platform, which he joined in 2014.
Dominating the Global Social Media Landscape
PM Modi's Instagram following now exceeds twice that of his closest competitor, former US President Donald Trump, who has 43.2 million followers. The list of other prominent world leaders includes Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto with 15 million, Brazil's president with 14.4 million, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan with 11.6 million, and Argentine President Javier Milei with 6.4 million. Notably, the combined follower count of these five leaders remains significantly lower than Modi's individual tally, highlighting his unique position in the digital arena.
Wide Lead Over Domestic Political Rivals
Within India, the gap between PM Modi and other political figures is equally substantial. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath follows with 16.1 million Instagram followers, while Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has approximately 12.6 million. This disparity further cements Modi's dominance not only internationally but also on the home front.
Topping Global Approval Ratings
In addition to his social media prowess, surveys consistently place PM Modi at the forefront of global approval ratings among selected world leaders. According to Statista data from December 2025, Modi held a 70% approval rating, securing the top spot. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi ranked second with 63%, followed by Argentina's Javier Milei at 60%. US President Donald Trump was positioned 11th with a 43% approval rating.
Recent Data Reinforces Leadership Position
The latest findings from US-based business intelligence firm Morning Consult, based on surveys conducted between February 2 and February 8, 2026, reaffirm Modi's leading status. He ranked first with a 67% approval rating, ahead of Czech Republic's Andrej Babis at 59%. Sanae Takaichi placed fifth with 56%, while Trump was 11th with a 40% approval rating.
Morning Consult's 2025 data also highlighted Modi's consistent performance, placing him at the top of the 'Democratic Leader Approval Ratings' list with a 75% score. South Korean President Lee Jae Myung followed at 59%, and Trump ranked eighth with an approval rating under 45%.
This dual achievement of surpassing 100 million Instagram followers and leading global approval ratings solidifies PM Modi's position as a preeminent figure in both digital engagement and public perception worldwide.
