PM Modi to Launch Modified UDAN Scheme and Inaugurate Major Projects in Rajasthan and Gujarat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Rajasthan and Gujarat on Saturday, July 4, to inaugurate the new terminal building of Jodhpur airport and launch the modified UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme. He will also lay the foundation stone for development projects worth approximately Rs 1.06 lakh crore in Balotra, Rajasthan, before traveling to Gujarat to inaugurate the CG SEMI Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Ahmedabad.
Jodhpur: UDAN Scheme Boost and New Airport Terminal
In a major boost to regional connectivity, Modi will launch the modified UDAN scheme in Jodhpur. The scheme has an allocation of Rs 28,840 crore over the next 10 years and aims to accelerate aviation-led development. Key components include the development of 100 aerodromes from existing unserved airstrips with an outlay of over Rs 12,000 crore, over Rs 2,500 crore for Operations and Maintenance (O&M) support for regional airports, and the development of 200 modern helipads to address accessibility challenges in remote areas. The scheme also continues Viability Gap Funding (VGF) support of over Rs 10,000 crore for airlines and includes procurement of indigenous aircraft such as HAL Dhruv and Dornier platforms to enhance connectivity in underserved regions.
During the programme, Modi will also inaugurate the new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport, developed at a cost of Rs 480 crore. Spread over 23,000 sqm, the terminal can handle up to 20 lakh passengers annually and is equipped with modern amenities to boost tourism, trade, and employment in the region.
Balotra: Rs 1.06 Lakh Crore Projects and India's First Greenfield Refinery
In Balotra, Modi will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate various development projects worth around Rs 1.06 lakh crore across sectors including petrochemicals, urban transport, railways, roads, renewable energy, and power transmission. A highlight is the dedication of India's first greenfield integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex at Pachpadra. Developed as a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and the government of Rajasthan, the 9 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA) complex has been established with an investment of over Rs 79,450 crore. It features a petrochemical capacity of 2.4 MMTPA, a high Nelson Complexity Index of 17.0, and petrochemical yields exceeding 26%, aligning with global efficiency and sustainability benchmarks.
Sanand: Semiconductor OSAT Facility Inauguration
In Gujarat, Modi will inaugurate the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, marking the commencement of commercial production. This facility is one of the first four approved under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and has been developed with a total investment of over Rs 7,500 crore. Once fully ramped up, it will have an annual production capacity of up to 5 billion semiconductor chips, catering to customers in automotive, industrial, telecommunications, 5G, and Internet of Things (IoT) sectors. The inauguration represents a significant milestone in strengthening India's position in the global semiconductor value chain.
