Punjab BJP Leader Condemns Alleged Police Misuse by AAP for Personal Event
In a sharp critique of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab, Paramjit Singh Kainth, vice-president of the Punjab BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha, has denounced the alleged deployment of police personnel for a pre-wedding shoot involving an AAP leader. Speaking on Thursday, Kainth labeled this incident as a direct assault on democratic norms, raising serious concerns about the politicization of state institutions.
Abuse of Authority and Institutional Politicization
Kainth emphasized that if the Punjab Police is being used to boost the personal image of a ruling party figure, it constitutes not just an abuse of authority but a clear example of institutional politicization. He questioned the core role of the police, asking whether it is meant to uphold law and order or serve partisan publicity interests. The police department is not a private instrument of any political party but a constitutional institution established to ensure public safety and maintain law and order, he stated, warning that such actions under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's leadership could signal a dangerous erosion of administrative neutrality in the state.
Demand for Inquiry and Legal Action
In response to the allegations, Kainth has called for an immediate and impartial inquiry into the matter. He urged for strict legal measures against any police officers or political individuals found responsible for misusing public resources. This demand underscores the BJP's stance on accountability and transparency in governance, particularly in light of Punjab's ongoing challenges.
Security Concerns Amidst Political Controversy
Kainth highlighted that Punjab is currently facing significant security issues, including an expanding drug network and persistent threats in border areas. He pointed to the recent killing of two police personnel near the international border in Gurdaspur district as a grave reminder of these dangers. Diverting police attention towards personal publicity activities at such a sensitive time is indefensible, he argued, stressing that law enforcement should prioritize public safety over political gains.
The controversy has sparked a broader debate on the integrity of Punjab's administrative systems, with the BJP pushing for reforms to prevent future misuse of state machinery.
