The three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged misappropriation of donations at the Ram temple has expanded its scope to include appointments, security arrangements, and administrative processes introduced after the consecration ceremony in January 2024.
Expanded Inquiry Beyond Donations
Sources confirmed that the SIT is no longer restricting its investigation to the alleged diversion of donation funds. It is now examining recruitment procedures, record maintenance, and decision-making processes within the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Documents related to various appointments made by trust functionaries have been scrutinized, and detailed information has been sought regarding security personnel and staff deployed at the temple complex.
Staffing and Recruitment Under Scrutiny
Approximately 800 personnel are currently engaged in operations at the Ram temple. Of these, nearly 200 were appointed directly by the Trust. Private agencies handle locker facilities, security services, footwear counters, and sanitation. Volunteers and salaried staff at the Yagya site, pilgrim facilitation centres, service centres, pass issuance counters, accounts offices, and temple priests were also appointed by the Trust. Sources revealed that several appointments may have been made without a comprehensive screening process. The SIT is examining how staffing requirements increased after the consecration ceremony, the recruitment procedures adopted, and how records were maintained. Key documents from the Trust office are under review, but no official findings on any individual officer or employee have been announced.
Security Personnel and Long-Serving Staff
The investigation team has also sought details of security officials, supervisors, and other personnel posted at the temple complex for extended periods. Sources indicated that the role of a security-related employee associated with the temple for the past 17 years is being examined. Investigators are gathering information on the tenure, responsibilities, and areas of operation of long-serving staff members.
Questioning of Senior Trustee Continues
SIT officials continued questioning a senior Ram temple trustee. According to sources, investigators asked about the process of counting donations, accounting of jewellery offerings, and procedures for depositing cash collections in banks. The team also sought clarification on his role during donation counting exercises and his presence during various stages of the process.
Ongoing Investigation
The expanded inquiry aims to determine whether any irregularities occurred in handling donations and administrative operations at one of India's most prominent religious institutions. No official statement has been issued on the findings so far.
