Sacrilege Culprits Won't Go Scot-Free: Punjab CM Mann

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has reiterated that his government will take strict action against those involved in sacrilege cases, emphasizing that a new law will ensure they do not escape punishment. Speaking after laying the foundation stone of a link road on the Dhussi bundh in Shahkot, Mann highlighted the law's provisions, including life imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 50 lakh.

New Law to Deter Sacrilege

Mann expressed pain over previous instances where culprits in sacrilege cases either went scot-free or secured bail. He stated that the new law is designed to prevent such outcomes and ensure justice. The legislation provides for life sentence for convicts, and the fine has been increased to Rs 50 lakh, making it a strong deterrent.

Infrastructure Project for Flood Prevention

The CM laid the foundation stone for a 37.93-km-long Dhussi Bundh link road, costing Rs 61.82 crore, which will benefit over 15 villages in the region. He emphasized that prevention is better than cure, and the project will act as a preventive measure against floods, reducing the need for compensation later. Mann also directed the Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner to use the best quality materials for the project.

He noted that the impact of floods is likely to be less this year due to the surface water irrigation project, which has increased utilization of surface water from 22% to 80%.
