Minister Sengottaiyan Defends Appointment
Tamil Nadu Minister for School Education, K.A. Sengottaiyan, on Friday defended the appointment of Venkata Narayana as the state's representative in New Delhi, stating that it was a policy decision of the government. Speaking to reporters in Gobichettipalayam, the minister emphasized that the government has the authority to appoint representatives as part of its administrative prerogative.
Policy Decision Clarified
Sengottaiyan said, "Appointing government representatives is a policy decision of the government. There is nothing wrong in it." He added that such appointments are made to ensure effective coordination between the state and the central government. The minister's remarks came in response to questions from the media about the recent appointment.
Background of the Appointment
Venkata Narayana, a former bureaucrat, was appointed as the Tamil Nadu government's special representative in Delhi earlier this week. The move has drawn criticism from opposition parties, who allege that the appointment is politically motivated. However, Sengottaiyan dismissed these allegations, reiterating that the decision was taken in the best interest of the state.
Government's Stance
The minister further stated that the state government has the right to choose its representatives based on merit and experience. He highlighted that Venkata Narayana's background in administration makes him suitable for the role. The appointment is expected to strengthen the state's liaison with the central government on key issues.
