Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday described the buzz surrounding the possible switchover of six Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs as just a trailer, hinting that more developments are yet to unfold.
Shinde's Statement on Political Realignments
Speaking to reporters, Shinde said, "This is just a trailer, the film is yet to come. There will be more political developments in the coming days." He was responding to reports that six Lok Sabha MPs from Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT) faction are in touch with the ruling Mahayuti alliance and may switch sides soon.
Shinde, who leads the Shiv Sena faction aligned with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserted that the Mahayuti alliance would emerge victorious in all 17 seats of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, voting for which took place on Thursday. "The Mahayuti will win all 17 seats. The opposition is demoralized and their leaders are in touch with us," he added.
Political Implications
The remarks come amid heightened political activity in Maharashtra, with the ruling alliance seeking to expand its base. The possible switchover of Sena (UBT) MPs would further weaken the opposition camp led by Uddhav Thackeray. Political analysts view this as a strategic move by the Mahayuti to consolidate power ahead of future elections.
Shinde's comments also underscore the ongoing tussle between the two Shiv Sena factions, with the deputy chief minister repeatedly claiming that more leaders from the Thackeray camp are willing to join his side. The developments are being closely watched as they could reshape the state's political landscape.
