Shuvam Devgan Takes Over as Punjab Youth Congress President

Shuvam Devgan has been officially appointed as the new president of the Punjab Youth Congress (PYC). The announcement was made on Monday by Indian Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib, who issued the order confirming Devgan's appointment. Devgan replaces Mohit Mohindra in the role.

Election Victory by a Wide Margin

Devgan secured his position by winning the election for the PYC president post, polling nearly 4,000 votes more than his closest competitor, Gagandeep Jalalpur. Jalalpur, who serves as the senior vice-president of the Punjab Youth Congress, is the son of former MLA Madan Lal Jalalpur. Karanvir Singh Dhillon finished third in the contest.

Background and Support

Prior to this appointment, Devgan held the position of general secretary of the PYC. He received backing from prominent party figures, including PPCC chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. A senior party leader noted, "Shuvam hails from Dhuri in Sangrur. Prominent Hindu leader Vijay Inder Singla is also from Sangrur."

Karanvir Singh Dhillon's Support Base

Karanvir Singh Dhillon, who placed third in the election, was supported by CLP leader Partap Singh Bajwa and former MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu. The new leadership team also includes Gagandeep Singh as senior vice-president and Karanvir Singh Dhillon as vice-president, as announced by the Punjab Youth Congress on social media.
