Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls Begins June 30 in Five States
The Election Commission of India has announced that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will commence on June 30 in Karnataka and four other states. The drive aims to update and correct voter lists ahead of upcoming elections. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct house-to-house visits from June 30 to July 29 to collect and verify enumeration forms.
States Covered Under SIR
Apart from Karnataka, the SIR will be implemented in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, and Odisha. These states were identified based on administrative requirements and electoral data discrepancies. The revision process is expected to add new voters, delete duplicate entries, and correct inaccuracies in existing records.
How to Fill the Enumeration Form Online
Citizens can fill the enumeration form online through the official National Voters' Service Portal (NVSP) at nvsp.in. The process involves logging in with a mobile number or email, selecting the 'Form for Special Intensive Revision' option, and entering personal details such as name, age, address, and Aadhaar number. A photo and supporting documents must be uploaded. After submission, a reference number will be generated for tracking.
Offline Method via Booth Level Officers
BLOs will visit each household in the designated areas. They will carry pre-filled forms for existing voters and blank forms for new applicants. Residents are requested to verify their details and submit corrections or new applications. BLOs will also assist in filling the forms and collect necessary documents like proof of age and address.
Important Dates and Deadlines
The house-to-house enumeration phase runs from June 30 to July 29. After this, the draft electoral roll will be published on August 1, allowing for claims and objections until August 31. The final electoral roll will be published on September 15.
Impact on Voter Turnout and Electoral Integrity
According to Election Commission officials, the SIR aims to enhance voter turnout by ensuring all eligible citizens are enrolled. The revision also targets to remove deceased and shifted voters, improving electoral roll accuracy. In the 2024 general elections, Karnataka had a voter turnout of approximately 72%, and the SIR is expected to increase this by adding an estimated 2 million new voters across the five states.
