In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking in the Santhal Pargana region, Jharkhand police arrested six individuals, including two from Bihar, and confiscated 28 kilograms of marijuana during coordinated raids in Deoghar and Sahibganj districts, officials confirmed on Saturday.
Deoghar Operation Nets 20.7 Kg Marijuana
In Deoghar, district police apprehended six drug traffickers and recovered 20.7 kilograms of marijuana, valued at approximately Rs 4 lakh. The raids were conducted near Chatterjee Bagan behind Jasidih railway station and at Naiyadih ground under the Kunda police station limits.
Deoghar Superintendent of Police (SP) Praveen Pushkar identified the arrested individuals as Ramdev Mahta, Dinesh Shah, Parshuram Mandal, and Yogendra Mandal, all from Deoghar district, along with kingpin Vikas Kumar Mandal, a former railway attendant, and Rajesh Yadav from Jamui district in Bihar. SP Pushkar disclosed that Vikas Kumar Mandal sourced the marijuana from Tripura.
Authorities seized Rs 28,500 in cash, mobile phones, identity documents, and a motorcycle from the suspects. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Preliminary investigations revealed that some of the accused have prior criminal records, and further inquiries are ongoing.
Sahibganj Raid Yields 7.6 Kg Cannabis
In a separate operation in Sahibganj district, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Sahibganj town police station, Sunil Kumar, conducted a vehicle checking drive near Rajbada 44 RD Canal on Friday. During the drive, police intercepted a motorcycle and discovered 7.6 kilograms of cannabis, estimated to be worth around Rs 1.5 lakh, concealed in a polythene bag.
The rider managed to escape on foot, abandoning the motorcycle. An FIR has been lodged under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Police have launched raids to identify the absconding biker and other individuals involved in the drug racket.
These operations underscore the ongoing efforts by Jharkhand police to combat drug trafficking in the region.
