The Tamil Nadu state government on Thursday reaffirmed its dedication to establishing Olympic centres of excellence with the aim of producing Olympic medal winners and positioning the state as India’s leading sporting powerhouse.
Governor’s Address to the Assembly
Addressing the assembly, Governor R V Arlekar stated, “These world-class centres will offer athletes the finest training infrastructure, elite coaching, cutting-edge sports science, performance analytics, and comprehensive athlete development.” The government also outlined support for transgender persons through skill development training, formation of self-help groups, assistance in securing employment and livelihood opportunities, and support for creating housing facilities.
Water Management Initiatives
On water management, the government announced a programme to maintain lakes and ponds annually to improve groundwater levels and conserve water during the monsoon. Intensive efforts will be made to implement river-linking projects, starting with interlinking rivers within Tamil Nadu, while urging the Centre to interlink rivers in the southern states.
