Suspect Arrested in Davanagere with Ayodhya Attack Plans

Karnataka Police have arrested a terror suspect in Davanagere district who allegedly planned to attack the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Mohammed Imran, was taken into custody late Monday night following a joint operation by the state's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and local police.

According to investigators, Imran's social media activity revealed a radicalized mindset. His WhatsApp, Instagram, and other accounts contained anti-national content and showed a clear intent to target the Ram temple, a major religious site in Uttar Pradesh.

Evidence of Anti-National Mindset

Police sources said that Imran had been under surveillance for several weeks. Preliminary investigations uncovered chats and posts praising extremist ideologies and discussing potential attack methods. The suspect had also made online searches related to explosives and temple security.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Davangere) Ramesh Kumar stated, "We found incriminating evidence on his phone and social media accounts. He was in touch with handlers abroad and had plans to carry out a strike at the Ram temple." The police have not ruled out the involvement of a larger network.

Investigation and Security Measures

Imran is currently being interrogated by a special team. Security has been tightened around the Ram temple in Ayodhya, and intelligence agencies are analyzing his contacts. The arrest comes amid heightened alert across the country following recent terror threats.

According to the ATS, Imran had procured a fake identity card and was scouting locations near the temple. Investigators are also looking into his travel history and financial transactions. "We are working to dismantle any sleeper cells involved in this plot," added Kumar.

This case underscores ongoing efforts to prevent attacks on religious sites. The Ram temple, inaugurated in January 2024, remains a high-profile target. Police have urged citizens to report any suspicious activity.
