TNCCI Urges Madurai Corporation to Reinstall Fish Sculpture

Madurai: The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TNCCI) has called upon the Madurai Corporation to promptly reinstall the iconic three fishes sculpture at the corporation tourism plaza near the Kattabomman statue. Addressing the media on Friday, TNCCI President N Jegatheesan emphasized that the 15-foot brass sculpture, which had been a landmark in front of the Madurai Junction railway station for 22 years, was installed by the chamber. It was removed in 2022 to facilitate redevelopment work at the railway station, but has not been reinstated despite the completion of renovations.

Court-Appointed Committee Identified New Location

Jegatheesan explained that after the chamber filed petitions, the Madras High Court appointed a committee to find a suitable location for the sculpture. The committee identified the corporation's tourism plaza as the ideal site, and the corporation council approved the location, leading to the issuance of a work order. However, the reinstallation has been delayed.

Chamber Urges Immediate Action

The TNCCI president criticized the corporation authorities for not taking steps to implement the court's directive. He urged them to act swiftly to reinstall the sculpture, which holds significant cultural and historical value for the city of Madurai.
