In a stroke of extraordinary luck, a tribal family in Madhya Pradesh's Panna district has struck diamond again, two years after they unearthed a gem worth Rs 93 lakh. Labourer Rakesh Adivasi, along with his three brothers and some relatives, made the latest discovery in the Ahirgaon area.
Lease and Mining Operation
An official from the diamond office confirmed that the group had obtained a lease in April 2026 and set up a mine. The exact value of the newly found diamond is yet to be assessed, but the family is hopeful of another significant windfall. In 2024, the same family had found a 19.22-carat diamond that was auctioned for Rs 93 lakh by the diamond office.
Impact on the Family
Rakesh Adivasi, who works as a daily wage labourer, said the previous discovery transformed their lives. "We were able to build a house and educate our children. Now we hope this diamond will bring more prosperity," he said. The family has been mining in the region for years, often finding small stones, but large diamonds are rare.
The diamond office in Panna oversees the leasing of mining plots to locals. Successful finders are required to submit gems to the office, which auctions them and gives the proceeds to the finder after deducting a government commission. The region is known for its diamond reserves, and several families have made fortunes from such discoveries.
