Protesters Struggle for Basic Amenities at Jantar Mantar
Women gathered at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi as part of an ongoing protest over the NEET paper leak are facing a critical shortage of basic facilities, including toilets and drinking water. The lack of these essentials has compounded the difficulties for demonstrators who have been camping at the site for days, demanding action from the government.
Medical Camps Hit by Resource Crunch
The shortage of facilities has also severely affected the functioning of medical camps set up to treat protesters. According to volunteers, many women are suffering from dehydration, exhaustion, cuts, and minor injuries, but the lack of water and sanitation hampers treatment. “We are struggling to even provide basic first aid because there is no clean water to clean wounds or rehydrate patients,” a camp volunteer said.
The ongoing protest, linked to the NEET paper leak controversy, has drawn hundreds of women from across the country. They are demanding accountability from Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and a thorough investigation into the leak that disrupted the medical entrance exam.
Protesters Demand Immediate Action
Despite the hardships, the women remain determined. Many have been sleeping on the ground with minimal shelter, relying on sporadic donations of food and water. The lack of toilets has forced some to leave the site temporarily, weakening the protest’s momentum. “We are here to fight for justice, but the government must ensure basic dignity for those who are peacefully protesting,” another demonstrator stated.
The protest has garnered attention on social media, with hashtags like #JantarMantarProtest and #NEETPaperLeak trending. Supporters have called on the authorities to provide portable toilets and water tankers immediately.
Government Response Awaited
As of now, there has been no official response from the Delhi government or the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the facilities at the protest site. The women have vowed to continue their sit-in until their demands are met, including the cancellation of the NEET exam and a CBI inquiry into the paper leak.
