The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) has formally raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh. In a communication addressed to the Election Commission (EC), the party highlighted procedural lapses and administrative hurdles affecting the revision process.
Allegations of Irregularities in SIR Process
According to YSRCP leader and former minister Appireddy, the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) assigned to carry out the SIR are also burdened with their regular departmental duties. This dual responsibility, he argued, compromises the quality and accuracy of the electoral roll revision. Appireddy stated that the BLOs are unable to dedicate sufficient time and attention to the SIR work, leading to potential errors and omissions.
Impact on Electoral Rolls
The YSRCP contends that the current SIR process may result in the exclusion of eligible voters or the inclusion of ineligible ones, thereby undermining the integrity of the electoral rolls. The party has urged the EC to intervene and ensure that BLOs are relieved from other duties during the revision period to guarantee thorough and error-free work.
Call for EC Intervention
In its letter, the YSRCP requested the Election Commission to issue clear guidelines to the state administration to address these issues. The party also sought a review of the SIR implementation across all districts in Andhra Pradesh to rectify any discrepancies. Appireddy emphasized that a fair and accurate electoral roll is essential for free and fair elections.
The Election Commission is yet to respond to the YSRCP's allegations. The SIR is a critical exercise aimed at updating voter lists ahead of upcoming elections, and any irregularities could have significant political implications in the state.
