Natural farming key to Viksit Bharat by 2047: UP minister

Prayagraj: Cabinet minister Swatantra Dev Singh on Friday said the dream of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 would be realised only when farmers become self-reliant and natural farming is the best way to achieve this.

“Natural farming is not merely a method of cultivation, but a form of service to the earth. Excessive use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides has led to a rise in serious ailments, whereas natural farming paves the way for pure food, a healthy society and a healthy India,” he said.

Singh was speaking as the chief guest at the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’, a workshop organised at the Zila Panchayat auditorium to mark 12 years of the Modi government.

He said cow-based natural farming was being promoted across the state, which would help reduce input costs for farmers and increase their income.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Singh added, farmers are getting better prices for their produce and the country has become self-reliant in foodgrain production. “The benefits of various schemes are now being transferred directly into farmers’ accounts,” he said.

Phulpur MP Praveen Patel said natural farming is an ancient yet scientific method of Indian agriculture and an effective way to safeguard human health, the environment and soil fertility.
