The Bharatiya Janata Party has formed a fact-finding committee to investigate cross-voting by its members in the recent Karnataka Legislative Council elections. The decision comes after several party MLAs voted against the official candidate, leading to a setback for the BJP.
Committee Members
The three-member panel includes MLC CT Ravi, State Vice President N Mahesh, and Hubli-Dharwad Central MLA Mahesh Tenginkai. The committee will submit its report within a week, identifying those who cross-voted and recommending disciplinary action.
Background
The MLC polls, held on June 13, saw cross-voting by at least five BJP MLAs, which helped the Congress-JD(S) alliance secure two seats. BJP state president B Y Vijayendra expressed disappointment and vowed strict action against the rebels.
Leader of Opposition R Ashoka said the panel will ensure accountability. Meanwhile, Minister Nitin Nabhin alleged that the cross-voting was orchestrated by opposition parties.
The BJP aims to send a strong message against indiscipline ahead of the 2028 assembly elections.
