First Family Moves Into Wayanad Landslide Survivor Township

Kozhikode: Chooralmala native K Vijayan has become the first beneficiary to move into the government-built township for survivors of the Wayanad landslide disaster. Vijayan and his family, originally from School Road, Chooralmala, have begun residing in House No 38 in D cluster of Zone One within the township. The housewarming ceremony took place around 10.30 am on Sunday.

First Phase of Rehabilitation

Other families included in the first phase rehabilitation list are also expected to start moving to the township soon. A total of 178 beneficiaries are included in the first phase of the township project. Vijayan's house at Chooralmala High School Road had been completely destroyed in the disaster.

A New Beginning

The township now marks the beginning of a new life for the family. Vijayan, his wife Lalu, son Smijith, daughter-in-law Sajitha, and their three children are the first residents of the township. Besides relatives and friends, those who attended the housewarming ceremony included municipal chairman P Viswanathan, former minister O R Kelu, CPM district secretary K Rafeeq, and state committee member C K Saseendran.

Former chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan congratulated the family through a video call and said he would meet them in person when he visits Wayanad. District collector D R Meghashree also visited the family.
