In a major crackdown on illegal constructions, the Gurugram administration has initiated strict action against Stilt+4 buildings that violate building norms. These structures, which typically consist of a stilt parking area and four residential floors, have been found flouting regulations, raising safety concerns.
Violations and Safety Risks
Many Stilt+4 buildings in Gurugram have been constructed without adhering to the prescribed norms, including setbacks, floor area ratio (FAR), and fire safety measures. Such violations not only compromise the structural integrity but also pose serious risks during emergencies. The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has identified several such buildings across the city.
Action Taken by Authorities
The DTCP has issued show-cause notices to the owners and builders of these illegal structures. In some cases, sealing of premises and demolition of unauthorized floors have been carried out. The Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) is also coordinating with local police to ensure compliance.
Residents have welcomed the move, demanding strict enforcement of building bylaws. "These illegal constructions are a threat to our safety. The administration must take stringent action," said a local resident.
Legal Framework and Penalties
Under the Haryana Building Code, violators face fines, imprisonment, or both. Repeat offenders may face higher penalties. The government has also set up a helpline for citizens to report illegal constructions.
The crackdown is part of a broader initiative to regulate urban development in Gurugram, which has seen rapid growth in recent years. Authorities have warned that no leniency will be shown to those violating norms.
Builders and property owners are advised to obtain all necessary approvals before construction. The DTCP has urged citizens to verify the legality of properties before purchase to avoid future complications.
