Gorakhpur: A combined awareness programme and review meeting on women's empowerment and safety was held here on Saturday. The initiative, led by Uttar Pradesh State Women's Commission Chairperson Babita Singh Chauhan, focused on sensitising women and girls about their rights, safety measures, and various government welfare schemes.
During the session, an expert from Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology delivered a presentation on key aspects of artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, the police department highlighted issues related to human trafficking, including preventive measures and response mechanisms. Officials also shared information on important helpline numbers such as 1090 (Women Power Line), 181 (Women Helpline), and 112 (Emergency Service). Awareness was raised on cybercrime prevention, self-defence techniques, and legal rights available to women.
Addressing the gathering, Chauhan said ensuring women's safety, dignity, and self-reliance remains the government's top priority and stressed the need for coordinated efforts among departments. She added that the commission functions round the clock, enabling victims to seek help through WhatsApp, email, and helplines for prompt redressal. She further noted that the state government's continued focus on women-centric issues has strengthened confidence among women in public spaces.
Commission Vice-Chairpersons Charu Chaudhary and Aparna Yadav were also present at the event.
