Dangerous Shortcut on Buddha Nullah Bridge
Commuters are putting their lives at risk near the elevated bridge on Buddha Nullah on the Salem Tabri side by crossing a cut that has appeared after a median was removed from the road. The opening, located at the start of the bridge on one side and at the end on the other, creates a sudden hazard for fast-moving traffic. There is a high possibility that commuters using this road from Salem Tabri to reach Jagraon bridge may get involved in a road mishap.
Traffic Conflict at High Speeds
Sources said that the median was removed due to road construction, leaving a small gap for commuters. Area residents noted that vehicles coming from Jagraon bridge to Salem Tabri, and vice versa, often drive at high speeds on the elevated road. The cut forces them to suddenly encounter pedestrians or vehicles taking a shorter route, increasing the risk of collisions.
Resident Voices Concerns
Salem Tabri resident Avinash Rai stated, “Although this cut serves as a short route for commuters, who otherwise have to drive a little more to take a U-turn, it might lead to some road mishap. Since it is an elevated road, commuters who go up or come down from it usually drive at good speed and presence of any vehicle or pedestrian on this cut may hinder the movement of the incoming vehicles and an accident may happen.”
Demand for Safety Measures
Residents have demanded that authorities either place barricades around the cut to alert drivers on the elevated bridge or close the opening entirely. They emphasize that without immediate action, the risk of a serious accident remains high.
