The Samba Police have attached properties worth more than Rs 2 crore belonging to an alleged drug peddler, marking a significant breakthrough under the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan’. The action was taken on Friday and is seen as a major blow to the narcotics network in the district.
Properties Attached Under NDPS Act
A police official confirmed that the attached movable and immovable assets, valued at over Rs 2.08 crore, belong to Narayan Sharma, a resident of Vijaypur in Samba. Acting under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, police attached properties believed to have been acquired through proceeds generated from illicit drug trafficking.
Details of Attached Assets
The attached assets include a house valued at around Rs 48.50 lakh, a car bearing registration number DL8CZ-3976 worth approximately Rs 10 lakh, and land measuring 12 kanal and 4 marlas valued at nearly Rs 1.50 crore. During the investigation, police established prima facie evidence indicating that these properties were acquired through proceeds of narcotics trafficking.
Legal Proceedings Initiated
Further legal proceedings are being initiated in accordance with the law, police said. The official added, “Narayan Sharma is a habitual and notorious drug peddler presently lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal under the provisions of the PITNDPS Act. He is involved in multiple NDPS-related cases.”
Sharma is an accused in a case registered at Ramgarh police station under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act, Section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Sections 3/4/25 of the Arms Act. Another NDPS case is registered against him at RS Pura police station in Jammu district. The attachment notice was put up on the house of the accused in the Vijaypur area.
