Green Corridor for Organ Transport from Gandhinagar to Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: In a coordinated effort between medical authorities and the police, a green corridor was created to transport organs from a brain-dead woman at GMERS Medical College and General Hospital, Gandhinagar, to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for transplantation.

According to officials, Kajal Rathod, who was undergoing treatment at the Gandhinagar hospital, was declared brain-dead by doctors. Her family consented to donate her kidneys, liver and pancreas to help patients awaiting transplants.

Given the limited time available for organ retrieval and transplantation, the hospital administration requested the Gandhinagar district police to facilitate rapid transportation of the organs to Ahmedabad. Acting on the request, police authorities in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad coordinated to establish a green corridor, ensuring uninterrupted movement of the ambulance carrying the organs.

Police stations along the route were alerted in advance and traffic management measures were implemented to keep the corridor clear. As a result, the ambulance reached Ahmedabad Civil Hospital within the stipulated timeframe, enabling the organs to be delivered directly to the operation theatre for transplantation.

Deputy chief minister Harsh Sanghavi expressed condolences over Rathod’s death and praised her family’s decision to donate organs.
