Chandigarh: In a significant move to strengthen its campaign against narcotics trafficking, the Haryana government has notified 13 new exclusive fast-track special NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) courts across the state, bringing the total number of such courts to 21.
According to a notification issued by the Administration of Justice Department, one special NDPS court each at the level of additional sessions judge has been sanctioned in Faridabad, Gurgaon, Panchkula, Rohtak, and Yamunanagar. Two additional courts have been approved in Fatehabad, raising the total there to three, while six new courts have been established in Sirsa, increasing the number to seven.
Earlier, eight NDPS fast-track courts were set up in Sirsa, Fatehabad, Ambala, Hisar, Kaithal, Karnal, Kurukshetra, and Panipat. The phased rollout of the newly sanctioned courts is expected to accelerate the disposal of pending NDPS cases and ensure speedy trials.
Haryana DGP Ajay Singhal stated that the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, is pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against drug traffickers and is committed to dismantling the narcotics network through stronger policing, intelligence gathering, financial investigations, asset attachment, and swift prosecution.
To encourage public participation, the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau is operating a 24-hour anti-drug helpline (90508-91508), while the Narcotics Control Bureau's MANAS portal and helpline number 1933 are also being promoted across the state to support the Drug-Free Haryana campaign.
