Ludhiana MC issues challans to 61 illegal buildings in 5 days

The building branch of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has issued challans to 61 illegal buildings over the past five days, following directives from Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ojasvi Alankar. The action targets structures that violate building bylaws, covering residential, commercial, and industrial properties across the civic body's four zones.

Drive Intensifies Against Violations

The crackdown was initiated on the instructions of MC Commissioner Ojasvi Alankar and Joint Commissioner Tapan Bhanot, who heads the building branch. Officials have been ordered to expedite recovery of pending challans issued for past illegal constructions. Commissioner Alankar stated that no leniency would be shown towards illegal constructions or dues recovery, and staff have been directed to conduct regular checks in their respective areas on a daily basis.

He also appealed to residents to start construction work only after getting their building plans approved from the MC, emphasizing the importance of adhering to legal procedures.

Commissioner Alankar appealed to residents to pay their taxes on time to avoid penalties. He highlighted that the funds collected are used for providing basic amenities and development works across the city.

Impact and Next Steps

The ongoing drive against illegal constructions is expected to continue, with officials instructed to maintain vigilance. The MC aims to curb unauthorized building activities and ensure compliance with urban development regulations. The property tax review is part of broader efforts to improve revenue collection, which supports infrastructure and civic services in Ludhiana.
