MP workers to get welfare benefits faster via tech partnership

Indore: Thousands of workers in Madhya Pradesh may soon find it easier to access welfare benefits without repeated visits to government offices, following a five-year partnership between the state’s Unorganised Rural and Urban Workers Welfare Board and Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS).

Technology-Driven Welfare Delivery

The agreement seeks to use technology to simplify the delivery of labour welfare schemes by reducing paperwork, improving beneficiary identification and making services more transparent. Officials believe the initiative could help bridge one of the biggest challenges in welfare administration, ensuring that eligible workers receive benefits quickly and with fewer procedural hurdles.

The collaboration comes at a time when government departments are increasingly relying on digital platforms to improve service delivery. Under the arrangement, SGSITS will provide technical expertise in digital governance, data management and analytics, while also helping to develop new digital solutions for the labour department.

Building on Existing Innovations

The institute is not new to the sector. Its information technology department has already developed the ‘Shram’ and ‘YES’ applications for the department. The YES application alone has connected more than 10,000 users, according to officials. Building on that experience, both organisations are expected to jointly work on new technology-driven projects in the coming years.

“The objective is to make welfare schemes more accessible and transparent for workers through technology-enabled governance,” the welfare board secretary Raghu Rajan said.

Opportunities for Students

Apart from supporting government initiatives, the partnership is expected to create opportunities for SGSITS students. They will be able to participate in internships, field studies and project work linked to real-world administrative and social challenges. “Students will gain valuable practical exposure while contributing to solutions that have a direct social impact,” SGSITS director Nitesh Purohit said.

The two institutions also plan to organise seminars and awareness programmes on labour welfare, workplace safety, social security and women’s empowerment. A joint coordination committee will monitor the implementation of projects under the agreement.
