Nagpur: In a significant breakthrough, the crime branch has dismantled an organized vehicle theft racket, arresting three key accused and recovering a stolen car along with a motorcycle used in the crime. The operation, which relied on technical intelligence and cyber support, dealt a strong blow to the interstate vehicle theft network operating in the city.

Operation Details

The special operation received support from the Cyber Unit and Crime Branch, highlighting the increasing use of technology in tracking and dismantling organized vehicle theft modules. Police believe the gang was involved in multiple thefts across Nagpur and surrounding areas, targeting four-wheelers and two-wheelers for quick resale after dismantling.

Accused Arrested

Acting on precise technical leads, the team nabbed Abdul Raab alias Mastan Niyaz Ansari, Raheel Kalam Sheikh, and Abid Ahmed alias Sameer Shafik Ahmed, all residents of Yashodhara Nagar. Two more accused — Faizan from Manjari and Jasin alias Bowa from Yashodhara Nagar — have been identified and declared wanted.

Seized Items

During the raid, the squad comprising head constable Rakesh Tiwari and others under DCP crime Deepak Aggarwal seized the stolen car valued at 50,000 and a bike worth 1 lakh that was allegedly used to commit the thefts.

Ongoing Investigation

The police are continuing their investigation to trace other members of the gang and recover more stolen vehicles. The use of modern technology in this operation marks a new chapter in crime prevention in Nagpur.
