Noida Hit by Power Outages and Voltage Fluctuations

Noida Residents Endure Prolonged Power Outages and Voltage Fluctuations

Residents across multiple sectors in Noida have been grappling with extended power outages and voltage fluctuations multiple times daily over the past three days, attributed to equipment snags. The RWA general secretary of Blocks C to F, Sector 51, Sanjeev Kumar, informed TOI that despite Noida being classified as a 'No-Cut Zone,' the constant fluctuations have left many households without electricity and at risk of severe appliance damage.

On June 14, a loose wire and extreme voltage fluctuation caused an AC unit in a C Block resident's home to catch fire. Residents from nearby areas also reported instances of appliance damage due to fluctuating power supply. These incidents have prompted demands for compensation from the power department for the damages incurred.

Frequent power cuts have also impacted industrial production and caused damage to machinery. 'The power infrastructure in this (Phase-2) area has reached a breaking point,' said Sanjeev Sharma from the Phase 2 Industrial Area. Sharma added that while diesel supply is restricted, poor power infrastructure has further aggravated the situation.

While power cuts were reported only recently in sectors 105, 82, 100, etc., Sector 11 has been plagued by the issue since last week. Residents also reported a five-hour outage last Saturday due to a transformer snag, which curtailed access to power and water supply. 'While the outages continued even this week, no official is willing to visit the affected area,' said a resident of Sector 11.

However, power department officials informed TOI: 'A technical fault in a distribution transformer that caused an outage for about 50 households was rectified by rerouting the supply through another transformer. Full supply was also restored by replacing the faulty distribution transformer.' They added that later this week, five old and damaged 11 kV panels at the 33/11 kV substation in Sector 11 were also replaced, which are expected to resolve power supply disruptions previously caused by storms and rain.

'The work was carried out under the RDSS scheme for 12 hours, and the initiative will also resolve tripping-related issues for industrial units in Sector 11, ensuring a high-quality power supply,' said Vivek Kumar Patel, superintending engineer at Noida power department, PVVNL.
