Panchkula: In a special enforcement drive conducted from May 18 to May 24, the Panchkula police issued a total of 1,299 challans against vehicles plying without number plates or with tampered registration plates. This week-long crackdown was aimed at curbing the use of unidentified vehicles often linked to criminal activities.
Details of the Enforcement Drive
During the campaign, police teams checked 4,932 vehicles across the district. A total of 931 manual challans were issued, and 86 vehicles were impounded, bringing the manual enforcement cases to 1,017. Additionally, 282 online challans were issued, taking the overall total to 1,299.
Purpose and Supervision
The drive was launched on the directions of the Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) to prevent the misuse of vehicles without proper registration plates, which are frequently used to evade surveillance and conceal identity. Such violations not only breach traffic norms but also pose a significant challenge to crime control.
ACP (traffic) Surender Singh stated that intensive nakas and checking were carried out at key roads, highways, markets, sensitive zones, and entry-exit points across the city. The campaign saw active supervision by DCP (crime and traffic) Amrinder Singh, who inspected multiple checkpoints and monitored operations on the ground, including late-night visits to ensure strict enforcement.
Ongoing Efforts
Police emphasized that enforcement drives will continue to ensure compliance and improve public safety. Authorities urge vehicle owners to ensure proper registration plates to avoid penalties and contribute to crime prevention.
